Where does this hope emanate from – and why? The premise – that an innovative service can lower overall health care costs for employers – is flawed. Evidenced by years of failed attempts – including Amazon, Google, Microsoft etc… Why would Amazon want to lose money? Why would any business or venture?

We just lost 6yrs of life expectancy, commercial rates are expected to rise by double digits this year, and if you add “supervisory care” to our NHE – our health expenditure is closer to $5T per year than $4T. I’m not seeing a lot of hope in those statistics.

Besides, no one really WANTS to innovate – they just need the theatrics of “innovation” as a cover to siphon off margin from the status quo because they know there’s no real hope of changing it. Small, incremental changes maybe – sure – but they’re not making any real dent and if the hope is that the increments will add up – I’m afraid we’re all in for a very long (and expensive) wait.
