Apartheid survived so long because of the mutually reinforcing influence of fear, denial and routine. But once it broke, it broke wide open. Racism at its core is cowardice and cruelty. In fair elections, it’s a minority position. The Trump empire illegality is of Mafia-like in its bold openness and dimensions. It will be pursued till completion for that family. That is well underway – now a distraction. As for the Republican party, where cracks appear (and they will as with Liz Cheney), they will grow and expand with time – not narrow. But Mandelean focus and determination by all good and decent Americans for as long as it takes will be required to correct historic racism and predatory capitalism. Goodness and righteousness are the prescription for this disease.
